Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at a rally in Bapatla on Sunday, 10 March, 2024.

After the TDP-JSP announced its first list of 99 candidates and finalised the much-awaited alliance with the BJP party, the ruling YSRCP concluded its final Siddham meeting, preparing its cadre against the mighty Opposition in the state.

Amid a thunderous gathering in Bapatla on Sunday, 10 March, Jagan set the stage for the elections, declaring, “I, YS Jagan, am ready (siddham) to serve all for another five years.”

He characterised this election as a “yuddham” (war) between credibility and deceit.

Jagan has been seen maintaining a “friendship in Delhi and foe at home” relationship with the BJP.

Interestingly, he launched an attack on Sunday against the tripartite alliance partners for their non-implementation of promises from 2014 to 2019.

He also raised the issue of the sentimental promise of Special Status by TDP-BJP-JSP in their ruling days, which has also been a key election pitch and a promise made by Jagan in his 2019 campaign, but has seen no progress so far.

This led to a political slugfest on social platforms as both sides attacked each other over the non-implementation of the Special Status.

Broadside on opposition

Jagan also recalled his 2019 election campaign, affirming that he delivered on the promise of bringing good days.

He assured that the positive trajectory would persist beyond 2024 and cautioned the people against “falling” for TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s strategies.

While addressing the formidable alliance without explicitly mentioning his sister YS Sharmila leading the Congress, he urged the cadre to campaign against the half-dozen opponents.

It was not immediately clear to which parties — other than the TDP-JSP-BJP and the Congress — he was referring.

He emphasised his trust in the cadre and, likening himself to a lone lion ready to roar in the elections.

Jagan also claimed that voting for his party would liberate the state from poverty and pave the way for a prosperous future.

He expressed confidence in securing all the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats with his government’s commitment to welfare and development.

The manifesto melee

In a jab at the Opposition TDP, Jagan criticised its “super six” manifesto for exceeding the state budget by ₹73,400 crore.

He underscored that continuing the existing Navaratnalu (nine gems) welfare schemes would require an additional ₹73,400 crore every financial year.

Speaking on his party’s manifesto, he asserted that he did not promise what was not achievable. Once he makes a promise, there’s no turning back, he said. “That is my commitment,” he emphasised.

He also said that in five years, he had distributed welfare funds totalling ₹2.7 lakh crore directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, a feat accomplished 130 times.

He urged beneficiaries to become his star campaigners and encouraged them to educate the poor about the consequences of not voting for the YSRCP, which he said would be a “big mistake”.

He further stated that YSRCP cadre and volunteers were currently going door to door, boasting about how the state government fulfilled 99 percent of its 2019 manifesto promises.

“From Kuppam to Ichchapuram, 86 percent of households in every village received welfare benefits and development,” he said.
