Chandrababu Naidu praises Modi, predicts repeat of Haryana win in Maharashtra and Jharkhand

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday, 9 October, said that it was a proud moment for him to acknowledge the fact that BJP has scored a hattrick in Haryana and emerged as a powerful force in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters at his Undavalli residence near Vijayawada, the Chief Minister said: “I am proud to be in the NDA. Contrary to speculation on the outcome of the polls in Haryana, the BJP emerged victorious. This is proof that good governance, coupled with commitment to welfare and development, would get the support of the people. It is a vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

He exuded confidence that Haryana result would repeat in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, as people are now looking at the parties that are committed to delivering development as well as welfare.

On India’s growth under Modi’s leadership

The chief minister showered praises on Narendra Modi for the leadership he has given the country and made it the fifth largest economy in the world.

Naidu said: “Under Narendra Modi’s leadership, I am sure country would become No.1 or at least No.2 economic power in the world by 2047. As India has the advantage of demographic dividend, reaching the target may not be difficult. We have a greater number of young people than the aged, unlike in other countries. This apart, the country is leveraging new technologies including the Artificial Intelligence to accelerate growth.”

The TDP supremo said that if the country was making rapid progress on all fronts, it was because of the continuity of the same dispensation for the last 10 years. “Take the case of Gujarat. For the last 30 years, the BJP has been in the saddle. This has helped the state in recording exceptional growth on all fronts,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh moving forward

Referring to the solid foundation he had laid for the growth of Hyderabad when he was the Chief Minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu said that after the division of the state in 2014, the subsequent government continued the tempo of development. ”Unfortunately, the previous YSRCP government had demolished all the good work I had done when I was chief minister of the truncated state of Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2019,” he alleged.

“Now we are trying to build the state brick by brick,” Naidu said and wondered how the YSRCP could leave Andhra Pradesh with a pile of ₹10.5 lakh crore debt and yet talk ill of the TDP-led NDA government when it is trying to put the state back on the road to development.

Chandrababu Naidu said that as the country is developing on all fronts, Andhra Pradesh would also claim its share in it and move forward. “I am keen on integrating the centre’s development works with those initiated by the state for synergistic effect to benefit the state,” Naidu said, adding that the state would strengthen the hands of the centre and at the same time take help from it in areas where it needs hand-holding.

Agreeing with Modi’s views

The Chief Minister readily agreed with Narendra Modi’s policy of ’One nation, One election’. He said it would give leeway to the party in power in a state to plan development and welfare without having to shift its attention frequently to elections. “If all elections – Lok Sabha, Assembly and local body – are over at a time or at least in one year, the party in power could focus on development for the remaining four years,” he said. Naidu said he still wants ₹500 and ₹200 notes to be demonetised to reduce the influence of money in elections.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the country is at the cusp of an infrastructure explosion. “The centre has earmarked ₹3 lakh crore for viability gap funding for major infrastructure projects across the country. Andhra Pradesh too is claiming its share in the pie,” he said.

Naidu added,₹75,000 crore railway works are already on-going in the state and road works worth ₹55,000 crore are in various states of execution. This apart, big ticket industries like the BPCL’s Rs 60,000 crore petrochemical complex is set to materialise in Andhra Pradesh and Rs 1 lakh crore and NHPC’s ₹One lakh crore green nitrogen project will come in collaboration with APGENCO in Visakhapatnam.
