The body was delivered to Tulsi's under-construction house on 19 December.

The West Godavari police have established the identity of a man, whose body was sent in a parcel to a family living in Yendagandi village.

Police identified the deceased as B Parlayya (45) of Gandhinagar in Kalla mandal. The decomposing body was delivered to the under-construction house of Sagi Tulsi on 19 December.

The wooden crate in which the body was delivered also contained an extortion note, demanding ₹1.30 crore. Parlayya’s relatives confirmed the identity after checking the clothes found on the body. Further, the police conducted a DNA test to re-confirm the identity.

Tulsi’s brother-in-law Chekuri Sridhar Varma is the prime suspect in the case. He has been missing ever since the body was delivered to Tulsi. Though he had multiple SIM cards, he was not reachable over the phone.

Woman on the run

The police were also looking for a woman, Vijaya Lakshmi, suspected of having handed over the ‘parcel’ to an autorickshaw driver, with an instruction to deliver it to Tulsi. CCTV footage showed the woman, wearing a scarf, arriving in a red Chevrolet car and handing over the ‘parcel’.

Investigators said Parlayya, an alcoholic, had been living separately from his wife and two children for the past 15 years.

Though the motive for murdering Parlayya has not been established, investigators expressed suspicion that the body was delivered to Tulsi to scare her so that Varma could take over her property.

Parlayya was last seen riding his Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle on 15 December, police said.

Investigators expressed suspicion that Varma — husband of Tulsi’s younger sister — and Vijaya Lakshmi were having an affair. Police have found that Vijaya Lakshmi had called Tulsi over the phone on 19 December, saying she was from the Kshatriya Seva Samiti, and construction materials had been delivered to her.

Superintendent of West Godavari Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi told reporters that the police would apprehend the suspects soon and take the case to its logical conclusion.
