Synopsis: The Andhra Pradesh police arrested YouTuber and political commentator ‘Prashna’ Raavan for the third time on 2 July, even after he obtained bail twice. Although the Kakinada court rejected the remand request by Sarpavaram police, officers from Machilipatnam detained Raavan in another case filed in their jurisdiction.
Even after obtaining bail twice in a row in two different cases, YouTuber and political commentator B Joseph, alias ‘Prashna’ Raavan, gets no relief as the Andhra Pradesh police arrested him again on Thursday, 2 July, in a third case.
Raavan was produced at the Kakinada court on Thursday by the Sarpavaram police and was granted bail on the same night on personal bond, a second time in two days, after he obtained bail in Pithapuram the previous day.
While the Kakinada court rejected the remand request by Sarpavaram police, in a brazen move, police officers from Machilipatnam, who had been waiting to detain Raavan in another case filed in their jurisdiction, arrested him.
The Kakinada court rejected the remand request by Sarpavaram police. In a brazen move, police officers from Machilipatnam were waiting to detain Raavan in another case filed in their jurisdiction.
Raavan was transferred to Machilipatnam on Thursday night itself.
His arrest follows a complaint filed at the Inaguduru Police Station in Machilipatnam. Jana Sena Party supporters complained to Inspector Parameswar, alleging that Raavan made objectionable comments against Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Meanwhile, members of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party have shared multiple social media posts urging the cadres to file cases against Raavan at police stations across the state.
The complaints against Raavan seem like a deliberate attempt to hound him by going through videos on his YouTube channel, Prashna.
There is mounting backlash against the Andhra Pradesh police crackdown on vocal critics of the government
Actor Prakash Raj took to social media to condemn the Andhra Pradesh government and the state police for the repeated arrests of Raavan. “I heard that they have filed 30 cases to keep him in custody. How far are you planning to go by abusing your power? This is shameful revenge politics in play.”
He added that the people were watching, and the government should not misuse its power. He called for the government to release Raavan soon.
The Pithampuram police in Andhra Pradesh had arrested him from Hyderabad on the night of 30 June for allegedly making derogatory comments against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and ISKCON’s Radha Manohar Das during the ‘Dalit Christian War Cry’ (Dalitha Kraisthava Samara Sankharavam) meeting in Eluru on 28 June.
The earlier arrest was based on a complaint a Jana Sena Party leader, Bojja Kumar Babu, had filed on 29 June.
On 1 July, Raavan was granted bail by a magistrate court, but was immediately arrested by the Sarpavaram police in connection with another FIR registered against him in 2025 at the Sarpavaram Police Station in Kakinada.
Raavan has been a vocal critic of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
