Synopsis: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relaunch of Amaravati development works on 2 May marked a major milestone for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. With ₹59,000 crore worth of projects inaugurated, Naidu’s capital city vision—stalled during the YSRCP rule—got a fresh lease of life. An emotional Naidu hailed it as a historic revival, backed by Modi’s strong endorsement
For Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the relaunch of Amaravati development works by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 May was a momentous occasion — one that rekindled his long-cherished vision for the capital city.
Naidu’s Amaravati dream, which had nearly collapsed under the YSRCP regime, is now firmly back on track. With Prime Minister Modi laying the foundation stone and inaugurating projects worth ₹59,000 crore in Amaravati, the Chief Minister was visibly elated. Beaming with pride, Naidu appeared overwhelmed with emotion—especially when Modi lauded him as India’s most tech-savvy leader, capable of executing even the most ambitious projects.
Beginning his address with a confident tone, Naidu said, “Today is a historic day. It marks the revival of Amaravati after five years of relentless destruction. Can there be a better day than this?”
He expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for personally visiting Amaravati to relaunch the development works. Reflecting on the state of affairs after taking office, Naidu said, “The NDA won 2024 state elections with a 94 percent strike rate. But when I assumed office, I found the state’s economy in shambles. It was on ventilator support. At that critical moment, it was Modi who gave us the oxygen we desperately needed. Later on, the ventilator was removed. Now, we will transform Andhra Pradesh into an economic powerhouse.”
Naidu also recalled his recent meeting with the Prime Minister to invite him to the event. “When I met him, he seemed unusually withdrawn. It was unlike him. He was deeply affected by the massacre of Indian tourists in Pahalgam. Yet, despite the emotional burden, he took the time to be with us today. I assure him of our full support in eliminating terrorism in all its forms from Indian soil.”
In a rare display of camaraderie with Modi, Naidu began and ended his address with patriotic chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram,” which was very unusual of him. Heaping praise on Modi for his foresight and leadership, he said: “The world is recognising Modi as a powerful leader. In 2014, India ranked 10th among global economies. Today, we are in 5th place. According to the IMF, we are poised to surpass Japan and reach 4th place, and even overtake Germany to climb to 3rd place by 2027. Making India the world’s top economy by 2047 is possible with Modi’s leadership.”
Naidu asserted that Amaravati is more than a city—it is the hope of five crore people. “Nearly 29,000 farmers voluntarily pooled 34,000 acres for building the capital. But from 2019 to 2024, they faced a nightmare — police lathis, court cases, and constant harassment. If we are restarting work today, this is your victory,” he said, calling Amaravati a gift to future generations.
Praising Modi’s technological vision, Naidu credited him with bringing semiconductor manufacturing to India and enabling transformative initiatives like Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and UPI. He announced a new initiative—the creation of a Quantum Valley in collaboration with TCS, IBM, and L&T. “We are embracing AI and pursuing cutting-edge technologies,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, in his address, recalled the suffering of the farmers during the YSRCP tenure. “The previous government tried to erase Amaravati like the Divi Seema cyclone in 1977 which wiped out villages. Farmers often asked who would come to their rescue. That dark period is over. Better days have arrived. Amaravati will be the hub for five crore people of Andhra Pradesh,” he declared.
Pawan Kalyan said that Prime Minister Modi, despite not having a family or a home of his own, had gifted the people of Andhra Pradesh the capital they had long yearned for. Expressing heartfelt gratitude, he said, “We owe the development of Amaravati to our farmers and the people of this state.”
Affirming Amaravati’s future, he said: “It will be the go-to place for the youth of Andhra Pradesh. They won’t need to migrate to Hyderabad or Bengaluru for opportunities. As we wished, Chandrababu Naidu has returned as Chief Minister. Let us build a vibrant Amaravati under his leadership.”
