NIA headquarters, New Delhi.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet before a special court in Vijayawada against three people for recruiting young women for the proscribed CPI (Maoist).

The case was initially registered by the Peddabayalu police in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam. The NIA’s Hyderabad unit took over and re-registered the case on 3 June 2022.

The Peddabayalu police registered the case based on a complaint regarding the recruitment of one Radha. The complaint accused Dongari Devendra, Dubasi Swapna and Chukka Shilpa of motivating Radha to join the Chaitanya Mahila Sangham (CMS), a frontal organisation of the banned outfit.

She was later recruited to the CPI (Maoist) led by underground Maoists Ramakrishna alias RK, who died in October 2021, Uday, Aruna and others.

What the probe revealed?

Investigations revealed that the accused had attracted gullible young girls to CMS under the guise of social work. They were later drafted into the CPI (Maoist) based on their dedication to the organisation.

The probe also revealed that the accused, Devendra, Swapna and Shilpa, had recruited a few other girls too for CPI (Maoist) and attempted to motivate several others into joining the outfit.

Investigators said that the accused Devendra had taken Radha to the forests under the pretext of providing medical assistance to someone and that Uday and Aruna had coerced her to join the banned organisation.

The role of the CMS and other leaders in the larger conspiracy is being probed, NIA officials said.
