Synopsis: Under its impact, isolated moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in the North Andhra districts on Saturday, 12 September, while light rain is expected in South Coastal Andhra. Heavy rains have been falling in several areas, including Vijayawada, since early Saturday morning, leaving low-lying areas inundated.
A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal has brought some relief to Andhra Pradesh, which has been facing a severe rainfall deficit due to the impact of El Niño. Under its influence, widespread rains are lashing the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The State Disaster Management Authority announced that the low-pressure area continues over the Northwest and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal, along the South Odisha and North Andhra coasts.
Meteorological department officials stated that the low-pressure system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify over the next 24 hours.

Under its impact, isolated moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in the North Andhra districts on Saturday, 12 September, while light rain is expected in South Coastal Andhra. The Disaster Management Authority warned that strong winds reaching 50–60 km/h along the North Andhra coast and 40–50 km/h along the South Coastal Andhra coast are likely.

The State Disaster Management Authority also stated that rain is forecast from Srikakulam to Palnadu on Saturday.
Further, moderate to heavy rains will lash Srikakulam district due to the system. Moderate rain accompanied by lightning is forecast in Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, and Visakhapatnam districts. Moderate rain with lightning is also likely in Anakapalli, Kakinada, and Konaseema districts. Light to moderate rains will occur in East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, and Guntur districts.
Authorities advised the public not to step out unless it is an emergency, and cautioned against standing under trees or hoardings. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for fishing.
The low-pressure area centered over South Chhattisgarh and its adjoining regions is likely to move west-northwestwards across South Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha during the next 24 hours. Under its influence, widespread rains will occur across the state on Saturday and Sunday.
As of 5 PM on Friday, 11 September, rainfall recorded stood at 39.7 mm in MS Palli of Srikakulam district, 17.7 mm in Parawada of Anakapalli district, 16.5 mm in Shankhavaram of Kakinada district, 15.5 mm in Ramarajupalem of Alluri district, and 15 mm each in Ichchapuram of Srikakulam district and Velanka of Kakinada district.
