Lok Sabha elections: NDA leads 5-3 in Andhra Pradesh pre-poll surveys

Five agencies predicted the TDP-JSP-BJP combine to win the polls while three others gave an upper hand to the YSRCP.

The NDA alliance — TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP — is leading 5-3 in opinion polls conducted by various agencies in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP has unleashed a campaign codenamed Siddham (ready) to secure a second consecutive term. The TDP is rallying under the slogan, Babu malli meere raavali (Babu, you should return).

The political parties were making grand claims of an impending victory. Simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be held on 13 May in the state.

Three agencies predict YSRCP win

According to eight agencies, the NDA was ahead in five pre-poll surveys, while three predicted a YSRCP win.

Out of 25 Parliamentary and 175 Assembly seats, the TDP is contesting in 17 parliamentary seats and 144 Assembly constituencies. The JSP seeks the mandate in two parliamentary and 21 Assembly seats, and the BJP in six Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly seats.

The YSRCP is going to the polls alone. The INDIA bloc has the Congress and the Left parties.

NDA in lead

The India Today ‘Mood of the Nation poll by CVoter predicted the NDA to win 17 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats, leaving eight to the YSRCP.

However, the survey between 15 December 2023 and 28 January indicated that neither the BJP nor the INDIA bloc would secure any seats if the Lok Sabha elections were conducted during the study period. The TDP and BJP were not in alliance during this period. It was fructified in early March.

The CNN-News18 Mega opinion poll by 10 different agencies from 12 February to 1 March suggested that the NDA was poised to see a surge in Andhra Pradesh, potentially securing 18 parliamentary seats. It limited the YSRCP to seven seats.

An India TV-CNX opinion poll predicted the regional parties to maintain dominance in Andhra Pradesh.

None for INDIA, JSP

The CNX opinion poll conducted between 1 April and 13 April said the YSRCP would win 10 seats, while the TDP, 12. The BJP would get three seats. The poll indicated that the INDIA bloc partners and the JSP would not win any seats.

An ABP News-CVoter survey held between 1 February and 10 March predicted the TDP and JSP to win 15 seats, and the BJP five. The remaining seats would go to the YSRCP, it said.

According to a NewsX opinion poll conducted in collaboration with D-Dynamics between 4 January and 13 April, the NDA would win 18 seats, with the JSP and BJP bagging two each. The survey had a sample size of 600-650 per constituency.

YSRCP prospects 

The Times Now-ETG survey predicted the YSRCP to win 19-20 seats out of the 25 seats. The survey conducted over two weeks had a sample size of 1,12,122 voters.

It said the TDP may win three to four seats, while the BJP would likely get one seat. The survey did not expect the Jana Sena and the INDIA bloc partners to win any seats.

A Zee News-Matrize poll conducted between 5 February and 27 February projected 19 seats for the YSRCP, six for TDP, and none for the BJP and Congress.

TV9 – People’s Insights and Polstrat survey, too, predicted the YSRCP to have an edge of one seat over its rivals. The survey was conducted between 1 April and 13 April.

It said the NDA alliance might win 12 seats, with the TDP bagging eight and the other two parties getting two each. It predicted a YSRCP win in the remaining 13 seats.
