Officials confirmed that Shivashankar, seen in the CCTV footage, was the biker involved in the collision and also perished in the incident. He had reportedly gone to refuel his bike along with another youth shortly before the crash. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the mishap.
In the wake of the tragedy, Kurnool police have registered an FIR against the bus driver, Miriyala Lakshmaiah, and owner, Vemuri Vinod Kumar, following a complaint from survivor Ramesh, who alleged rash driving and negligence.
The duo has been booked under BNS Sections 125(a) and 106(1), which pertain to rash or negligent acts leading to death and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The sleeper bus, carrying passengers from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, was reduced to ashes within minutes. 19 passengers and the biker were killed on the spot, while four others sustained critical injuries. 27 people managed to escape, many by breaking windows and jumping out as flames consumed the vehicle.
Local residents and police teams rushed to the scene, but rescue efforts were hampered by the intensity of the blaze. Forensic experts have been deployed to identify the charred remains of victims.
