Former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy

Synopsis: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT Minister Nara Lokesh of politicising religion and spreading misinformation over the Tirupati laddu issue. He also alleged a pattern of coordinated attacks on the homes of YSRCP leaders across the State and said his party would approach the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission to seek justice.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with his son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, of “dragging God into politics for political gains”.

The YSRCP president said his party would approach all available constitutional and statutory forums, including the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission, to expose the “jungle raj” under the TDP-led NDA government and to counter the alleged false propaganda over the Tirupati adulteration case.

Jagan was speaking to the media on Friday, 6 February, after visiting senior party leader Jogi Ramesh and his family in Ibrahimpatnam.

The visit came days after Ramesh’s house was attacked, which Reddy said was a targeted response to temple prayers held by YSRCP leaders seeking goodwill and restraint from the government.

He alleged that individuals close to the TDP leadership and the home minister were involved in the recent attacks and cited posters and cut-outs put up by the TDP, which he said were meant to humiliate political opponents.

‘State undermining CBI finding in adulteration case’

Jagan also accused the government of trying to undermine the CBI report by questioning its findings instead of taking responsibility for misinformation on the laddu issue. He also pointed out that the investigation established that no animal fat was used in the ghee supplied for the preparation of laddus at the temple.

He said the CBI chargesheet, backed by reports from two Central laboratories, did not name any YSRCP leaders and contradicted claims made by TDP president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

He said the chargesheet recorded that four ghee tankers rejected by the TTD during Naidu’s earlier tenure as Chief Minister later returned to the temple disguised as supplies from another company, a fact he said was being ignored in the political narrative.

He said the one-man committee appointed by the State government was meant to pick holes in the CBI report and cover up the TDP’s lapses.

‘Attacks on YSRCP leaders’ homes follow a pattern’

The former Chief Minister alleged that attacks on the residences of YSRCP leaders followed a pattern across the State. He cited incidents involving former ministers Ambati Rambabu, Jogi Ramesh, Vidadala Rajini and Kakani Govardhan Reddy, and said TDP cadres acted in coordination with the police.

He said petrol bombs and acid bottles were thrown at Jogi Ramesh’s residence while his elderly father was alone at home.

He said the attacks intensified after YSRCP leaders began questioning the government’s version of the laddu issue, and accused the administration of allowing mob violence to continue.

The YSRCP president further alleged that multiple criminal cases were filed against Jogi Ramesh and his family as part of a political vendetta.

He said 24 cases were registered against Ramesh, including one linked to spurious liquor, while further cases were booked against Ramesh’s son after he entered politics. He also said a case was filed against Ramesh’s wife.

He said those responsible for attacks on party leaders, including political leaders, cadres and officials, would be held accountable. “All days will not remain the same. We are the future,” he said.
