As the Opposition TDP gets into campaign mode, YSRCP supremo and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is stepping up his offensive.

In the last two days, Jagan unleashed a blistering attack on TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan. Other leaders of the ruling party also upped the ante.

At the launch of the second phase of the Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku and Bhu Raksha Pathakam resurvey programme in Srikakulam’s Narasannapeta on Wednesday, 22 November, Jagan likened Naidu with the demon king Ravana.

He invoked the Ramayana to liken land-owners and land-grabbers to Rama and Ravana, respectively, and took the metaphor further to those who came to power on their own and those who usurped party and power from others.

Comparisons rooted in mythology

The chief minister said people like MG Ramachandran, NT Rama Rao, and he himself launched political parties and came to power on their own, but others like Chandrababu Naidu usurped party and power — the current TDP chief from his father-in-law NTR — which is like land-grabbing.

Reminding the people of how Naidu had seized power by “backstabbing” NTR, Jagan said, “Those who come to power by their sheer hard work and commitment are known as NTR, MGR, and Jagan, while on the other hand, those who come to power by betrayal are called Naidu.”

He added: “While the former are land-owners, the latter can be described as land grabbers. People supporting Ravana, who set his eye on Sita, should be called demons, and the friendly media of Naidu and Pawan Kalyan are like daushta chathustayam (Gang of Four).”

This time he was referencing the Mahabharata and its four chief antagonists: Duryodhana, Dushshasana, Karna, and Shakuni.

More attacks on Naidu

While addressing a public event in Srikakulam, Jagan berated the TDP supremo and said that time had come to say “bye-bye to Babu”.

Extending the attack to Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, Jagan slammed him for misleading the people against the YSRCP government.

He said, “Naidu’s adopted son visited Uddanam kidney victims. But what people want to know is, what exactly did the TDP government do for kidney patients when they were in power?”

Jagan also said that people should vote him back to power if their families benefited under his government. “Benefitted or not? This should be the only parameter for voting. Politics in the state should transform from cheating to accountability,” he said.

Speaking about Srikakulam specifically, the chief minister claimed his government had taken significant steps to provide clean drinking water to the people there.

He also spoke about the upcoming Kidney Research Centre in the area and reassured the people of a resolution to the issue of the Vamsadhara project after speaking to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

‘Idhem karma ra babu’

In a direct retort to the TDP’s yet-to-be-launched ‘Idhem Kharma’ campaign, Jagan Mohan said on Monday in Narasapur that people were looking at Naidu and saying what misfortune had befallen them. He invoked the film name Idhem karma ra babu.

Addressing a mammoth gathering, Jagan claimed even TDP founder-president NT Rama Rao must have said the same thing when he was backstabbed by Naidu.

In an obvious reference to Pawan Kalyan and Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, he said people who could not win an election were also making tall claims.

Dubbing Naidu a megalomaniac behaving like a jilted lover, Jagan said that people are ready to repeat the 2019 results.

The template of rejecting the TDP outright was seen in the Kuppam local bodies elections, he added.

Survey to help nearly 8 lakh land-owners

Meanwhile, Jagan reaffirmed that the YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku Mariyu Bhu Raksha Pathakam would usher in a land administration system that would have no room for corruption, tampering, land-grabbing, duplication, and civil disputes in the state.

Addressing a public gathering in Narasannapeta on Wednesday after handing over the land title deeds to the property owners, the chief minister said the programme, initiated two years ago at Jaggayyapeta, would be implemented in five phases to benefit 7,92,238 land-owners in 17,850 revenue villages.

As part of the resurvey completed in 2,000 villages in just nine months, 2 lakh mutations have already been carried out in 4.31 lakh sub-divisions, automatically saving farmers ₹27.80 crore, besides saving their valuable time.

In the first phase, farmers in 2,000 villages are expected to be handed over permanent title deeds in the next fortnight.

The distribution of land ownership documents in the second phase, covering 4,000 villages, would be completed by February 2023.

The third phase, covering another 6,000 villages, will reportedly be completed by May 2023, while the fourth phase covering 9,000 villages by August, and the fifth and final phase by December.

The resurvey was conducted using advanced technology, helicopters, aircraft, drones, and GNSS rovers, and employing 10,185 village surveyors and 3,664 ward-planning secretaries with an investment of ₹1,000 crore.
