Google to make Visakhapatnam its hub for future investments

Google is all set to make Visakhapatnam the hub for its strategic investments in Andhra Pradesh.

A delegation led by Google Global Networking and Infrastructure Vice President Bikash Koley made a presentation to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati on Wednesday, 11 December in Amravati to this effect.

The presentation was in follow-up to the agreement signed on 5 December in Visakhapatnam to collaborate on various Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives.

The delegation focused on further strengthening ties and elaborated on its plans for Google’s operations in India, future strategies, and the proposed strategic investments in Visakhapatnam.

Andhra Pradesh’s role in IT sector

Bikash Koley highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s significance as a key partner for Google and expressed interest in upcoming projects, according to an official press release.

Naidu recalled how he had ensured the flow of investments in the IT sector in the undivided Andhra Pradesh which he said had resulted in socio-economic development. He emphasized the transformative role reorganized Andhra Pradesh could play in the IT sector now. He welcomed Google’s investment proposals and assured the company that his government would provide the necessary incentives.

These steps are aimed at creating a robust technological ecosystem and enhancing employment opportunities in the state. Google plans to engage with the state through its global and local teams. A strategic cooperation agreement was also signed between the two parties.

State IT Minister N Lokesh, who was present on the occasion, recalled his recent visit to the United States, where he interacted with Google leadership and visited their headquarters.

Under the TDP-led NDA government, Andhra Pradesh has seen significant changes in investor sentiment, the press release claimed.

Within a few months, the state has attracted major investment proposals from global and Indian companies like Reliance Industries, Tata Group, ArcelorMittal, Nippon Steel, and Bharat Forge, the release said.

The release further claimed that these developments are expected not only to benefit Andhra Pradesh but also to act as a growth engine for the IT sector across the country.

The event was attended by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar, Industries and Commerce Secretary Dr N Yuvraj, and other officials.
