Following orders from the Andhra Pradesh High Court CBI Hyderabad Range DIG Sivasubramani registered an FIR under the jurisdiction of the Telangana ACB police station on 22 October.
CBI teams arrived in Vijayawada by Friday, 23 October evening and commenced their investigation into the case, and questioned the staff at the Krishnalanka police station until late at night.

In the Gade Sai Krishna case, the CBI has registered cases against the accused under 11 sections.
These include Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 305 and 3(5) (theft and common intention), 103(1) (murder), 127(4) (wrongful confinement), 127(6) (wrongful confinement in secret), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 316(5) (abuse of official position / criminal breach of trust); Sections 65 and 66 of the IT Act; and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Along with Krishnalanka CI Nagaraju, constables Ashok Kumar, Jangam Nani, Baburao, Sambaiah, Home Guard Venkataraju, and Nagaraju’s aide Gulivindala Suresh have been named as the accused.
After registering a fresh FIR, the CBI sought court permission to search the homes of the key accused. The court granted it, allowing the agency to inspect their residences.
These searches are taking place amid suspicions that A4 (Accused No. 4) Suresh, a close associate of Circle Inspector (CI) Nagaraju, misled the investigation. Efforts are underway to confirm whether Sai Krishna died in an abandoned building beside the national highway rather than inside the police station. Crucial evidence in this case has gone missing, and the CBI is trying to trace the hard disks that disappeared from the police station.
On October 16, the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued orders handing over the investigation of the Gade Sai Krishna case to the CBI. Although the state police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) was continuing its probe into the case, the bench—taking into account factors such as the destruction of evidence, tampering/swapping of CCTV hard disks, and the untraceability of the dead body—opined that an independent investigation was necessary.
