The incident

Several students fell ill after eating food served on Saturday at the Kailasapatnam Parisuddhathma Agnistuti Aradhana Trust Orphanage in the Kotauratla block of Anakapalle district.

The orphanage, operated by the Aradhana Trust, a minority institution, houses over 80 children, most of whom are orphans.

Seven children are receiving treatment at the Narsipatnam Area Hospital, while 17 others were admitted to the government hospital in Anakapalli.

Four of them, who were in critical condition, were transferred to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for better care.

On Sunday evening, many students began experiencing symptoms of vomiting and uneasiness. Three of them passed away in the morning, and the fourth, a girl in critical condition, died while being transferred to Visakhapatnam.

Officials reported that the children were served biryani, samosas, and chocolates on Saturday night after a prayer meeting. It appears that some of them also ate leftover biryani on Sunday morning.
