Former DMHO loses pension and gratuity after being convicted in bribery case

Synopsis: A former District Medical and Health Officer from Kurnool lost his ₹20 lakh gratuity and lifelong pension after being convicted in a 2017 bribery case. Caught accepting ₹30,000, he was sentenced to one year in jail and fined ₹10,000. Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav suspended his benefits under AP Pension Rules following the ACB Special Court verdict.

A former District Medical and Health Officer from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh has lost his pension and gratuity after being convicted in a bribery case.

The officer, who retired in 2020, was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2017 for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 to renew services at a private hospital and scanning centre.

Last month, the Kurnool ACB Special Court found him guilty and sentenced him to one year of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.

Acting on the verdict, Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav on Monday, 18 August, ordered the immediate suspension of his retirement benefits. Under the Andhra Pradesh Amended Pension Rules, 1980, officials convicted in bribery cases are not entitled to pension or gratuity, a loss amounting to over ₹20 lakh and lifelong pension.
