A day after Jana Sena supremo Pawan Kalyan took YSRCP leaders to task at Ranasthalam, the ruling party leaders launched a broadside against him on Friday, 13 January.

Besides talking about his alliance plans with the TDP, Pawan Kalyan had slammed the YSRCP leaders, especially its Kapu leaders and ministers, as also Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Cut to the quick by his comments, several YSRCP leaders lambasted Pawan Kalyan, asking him to pipe down, and not show bravado as he was “a puppet in the hands of the TDP”.

They said he only parroted what TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu asked him to, and warned him against making any insinuations about the chief minister.

The YSRCP leaders, speaking from multiple locations and platforms, said the Jana Sena leader had made it clear that he would be on the TDP’s side as he cannot himself take on the might of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan or match his panache.

They ridiculed him for seeking a guarantee from people that they would support him “as though he was a political salesman”.

Counter-questions

The YSRCP, responding to the charge that it had done little for the welfare of people, asked Pawan Kalyan what he had done for fishermen, farmers and other marginalised sections while rubbing shoulders with the TDP-BJP combine between 2014 and 2019.

Addressing media at the party headquarters here, Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Seediri Appalaraju termed Pawan Kalyan a politician-salesman with no morals. He said the Jana Sena leader has been reading out the TDP script prepared by Chandrababu Naidu.

Roads and Buildings Minister Dadisetti Raja said that Pawan Kalyan’s aspiration is to save TDP, leaving his (Jana Sena) cadre behind.

From the beginning of his political career, Pawan Kalyan is on the same wavelength as Chandrababu Naidu, betraying the people and justifying his “foster son” title.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, addressing media persons at Srikakulam, where Pawan Kalyan had held his rally, spoke of the Jana Sena leader’s “political hypocrisy” and described him as a “seasonal politician and not as a seasoned politician”.

He said Pawan Kalyan has no locus standi to point fingers at the chief minister who has been relentlessly striving to provide self respect to weaker sections through the USRCP government’s welfare schemes.

In Visakhapatnam, Minister for Industries and Commerce G Amarnath said Pawan Kalyan has been behaving as if he has the patent to speak on behalf of the Kapu community, even as he falls at the feet of Chandrababu Naidu who had abused the family of Vangaveeti Ranga — a big Kapu hero who was assassinated during TDP rule in the 1980s.

‘Jana Sena protecting TDP interests’

Speaking to the media, Roads & Buildings Minister Dadisetti Raja said that Pawan Kalyan’s aspiration is to save and serve TDP but not his cadre.

He reminded the Jana Sena leader that while the TDP brought in about ₹11,000 crore in investments per annum during its 2014-19 rule, the number had to ₹15,000 crore per annum during the YSRCP government — despite facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

He advised Pawan Kalyan not to transform the youth attending his meetings into anti-social elements through his provocative speeches, or by asking them to rebel against the police.
