Synopsis: In view of Cyclone Montha, the services of trains, flights and buses are affected in Andhra Pradesh due to safety reasons. APSDMA said real-time voice alerts for the Montha cyclone warnings are being delivered in 26 coastal villages of the coastal districts on an experimental basis.
In view of Cyclone Montha, the South Central Railway and the East Coast Railway have cancelled, partially cancelled or rescheduled several train services from, to and passing through Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh for safety reasons on Tuesday, 28 October.
“Passengers are requested to check train status before starting their journey. Stay safe and follow official updates from East Coast Railway,” it said in a release.
Meanwhile, the South Central Railway released several lists of cancelled or rescheduled trains. Flight operations from Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry airports have also been affected due to the cyclone.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Montha, moving in a north-northwest direction, is likely to intensify into a severe cyclone soon, with the possibility of crossing the coast between Machilipatnam and Kakinada by Tuesday night.
At the same time, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said real-time voice alerts for the Montha cyclone warnings are being delivered in 26 coastal villages of the coastal districts on an experimental basis.
“Even during a power outage, the 360° horn speaker system delivers clear warnings within a one-kilometre radius. This system is set to expand to more villages,” APSDMA said.
East Coast Railway announced the short termination/ short origination of the train.
IndiGo Airlines directed passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
“Due to prevailing cyclone conditions and heavy rainfall expected in and around #Vijayawada, #Visakhapatnam and #Rajahmundry, flight operations to and from these cities are affected,” it said in a post on X.
“We advise all customers to check their flight status at https://t.co/4fxgr5orzK before heading to the airport. As waterlogging and traffic congestion are anticipated, please plan your journey with extra travel time. Your safety and comfort remain our top priority, please stay safe and take care,” it added.
Further, only essential bus services are being operated in the affected areas of Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD noted that extremely heavy rainfall is occurring in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Nellore, Konaseema and Kakinada districts. Meanwhile, neighbouring Odisha is also on high alert in view of the impending cyclone.
Telangana is also expected to witness heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday.
