CM Chandrababu Naidu visits Jurong Petrochemical Island in Singapore
Jurong Petrochemical Island authorities stated that approximately 3,000 hectares of sea had been converted into land to develop the hub, which meets international standards.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, 29 July, accompanied by a delegation of ministers, visited the prestigious Jurong Petrochemical Island. The delegation observed the integrated industrial project developed by Singapore on Jurong Island, along with other essential infrastructure facilities. Singapore has constructed an integrated petrochemical plant and energy center on this island, which was created through land reclamation from the sea.
The delegation, led by the Chief Minister, was warmly received by Surbana Jurong’s Deputy Director Teo Eng Keat and Chief Executive Andie Lee, who provided a guided tour of the Jurong Petrochemical Centre. They explained the strategic significance and the range of critical services provided by the center.
The officials presented the planning process behind the center’s development, showcased various utility models, and explained the logistics infrastructure. The Chief Minister and the ministers were also briefed on the crude oil processing system at the petrochemical center, along with the production of polymers, fuels, and specialty chemicals.
Jurong Petrochemical Island authorities stated that approximately 3,000 hectares of sea had been converted into land to develop the hub, which meets international standards. They also mentioned that the prestigious project was developed under a public-private partnership model. The delegation was informed that, apart from the main industrial facilities, the island also includes a waste management plant and a comprehensive security system. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his desire for Singapore-based companies to join Andhra Pradesh’s industrial progress as global partners.
He also announced that an industrial-logistics corridor will be developed connecting the coastal ports of Kakinada, Machilipatnam, and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Along with linking these ports, a world-class oil refinery will also be established near them, he added.
Naidu held discussions with Singapore CEOs
Chandrababu Naidu also met with the CEOs of various companies to discuss maritime cooperation. He highlighted investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and stressed that the state’s long coastline is one of its greatest natural assets.
The roundtable meeting featured discussions on maritime operations and infrastructure development in the state. As part of the government’s comprehensive development strategy, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s focused efforts on port development and the establishment of port-based industries. He shared that detailed plans are already in place in this regard.
The CM also highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has a 1,053 km long coastline, with 6 operational ports and 4 more ports in the pipeline. He stated that reducing logistics costs is a key priority for the government and explained that the state is also exploring the development of dry ports and inland water transport to boost cargo movement.
He further added that the state is prioritising tourism and there is immense potential for cruise tourism along the AP coast.
AP’s coastline, ideal destination for investment
The Chief Minister stated that AP is preparing comprehensive plans to transform its long coastline into an investment hub. He emphasised that the state is working towards converting this natural gift into a major driver of economic growth. He noted that the conditions in the state are favourable for setting up shipbuilding units, which would in turn boost economic activity. The CM assured investors that the government would provide complete support to industries that come forward with well-thought-out investment proposals.
He highlighted that five ports are within close proximity to Sri City and discussed with the CEOs the emerging investment opportunities in the East Coast region, along with the development of new ports. Urging the investors to consider this as the right time to invest along the coast, he encouraged them to study the state’s investor-friendly policies and the incentives on offer.
The CM also underscored that Andhra Pradesh has changed gears to the Speed of Doing Business and assured investors of complete support for their investments. He assured them that AP’s government officials would be readily accessible to industry representatives and that the administration is fully prepared to assist prospective investors. He reiterated that there would be no delays in granting approvals, and in case of any, the ‘Deemed to be Approved’ policy would be implemented.
