According to Minister Nara Lokesh, doctors at Manipal Hospital successfully controlled the bleeding, and the girl's blood pressure is being maintained.
A Class 10 student, who was critically injured in a brutal chainsaw attack by a man during classes at a government school in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur, has been shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment.
The girl, who suffered serious injuries, including a severed arm and fractures to the skull and ribs, was shifted to the Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday night, where doctors reportedly stabilised her condition after administering blood transfusions.
According to Minister Nara Lokesh, doctors at Manipal Hospital successfully controlled the bleeding, and her blood pressure is being maintained. In updates posted on X, the minister thanked the medical staff at the hospital for “working tirelessly” to coordinate the emergency care.
“I have been in constant touch with the medical team at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, to check on the little girl’s condition. I am relieved to hear that the doctors have managed to control the bleeding and that her condition is currently stable. She is undergoing orthopaedic surgery, which will be followed by plastic surgery to treat her facial and other injuries,” the minister said.
“My heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and medical staff who are doing everything possible to help her recover. She has already endured so much, and I sincerely pray that she makes a full and speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers remain with her and her family,” he added.
The minister also thanked Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for arranging a green corridor for the swift transfer of the girl to the hospital. Two ambulances, accompanied by a medical team, were used for the journey, while the Karnataka government also provided a police escort, according to the PTI news agency.
Lokesh is scheduled to visit the Manipal Hospital on Sunday, November 1, to meet the doctors and personally review the treatment.
Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has assured that the government will bear all expenses of the girl’s treatment.
The shocking incident happened around 10:30 am on Saturday, October 31, at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu. A man, who has been identified as a native of Naguluru village, entered the classroom while lessons were going on and attacked the girl in the presence of over 30 other students. Another student who tried to intervene also sustained injuries.
The girl was rushed to the Anantapur Government General Hospital (GGH), where she received initial treatment. The girl suffered multiple grievous injuries, including the complete severing of her right hand, injuries to her neck and face, several fractures to her skull and ribs, and damage to blood vessels.
The second girl, a Dalit, suffered cuts to her ankle and a fracture, and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Andhra, according to minister Satya Kumar Yadav.
The attacker, allegedly an orphan raised by relatives, remains at large.
