Synopsis: Cognizant Technology Solutions will break ground on its ₹1,600 crore permanent IT campus in Visakhapatnam on 12 December. The 1.5 million sq ft facility at Kapuluppada IT Hills is expected to create 10,000 jobs. CM Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh will attend the ceremony. Currently operating from a temporary Rushikonda facility, the campus is slated for phased completion from 2027.
Preparations are underway for the groundbreaking ceremony of Cognizant Technology Solutions’ permanent IT campus in Visakhapatnam, scheduled for 12 December.
The project, with an investment commitment of ₹1,600 crore, is expected to generate up to 10,000 IT jobs and is being described by officials as one of the largest digital infrastructure initiatives in Andhra Pradesh in recent years.
The ceremony will be held at the 21.31-acre site allotted to the company at Kapuluppada IT Hills near the VMRDA Haritha Housing Complex. The land, covering survey numbers 394 to 397, has been leased at a nominal rate of Rs 0.99/acre through a partnership involving Cognizant, APIIC and VMRDA.
Officials said the location—close to Rushikonda’s IT cluster—was identified for its connectivity, skilled manpower availability and proximity to emerging tech hubs.
According to APIIC and VMRDA sources, site surveys and soil testing were completed last month, clearing the way for the construction of the proposed 1.5 million sq ft campus. The facility will house AI and digital engineering labs, collaborative workspaces and green-energy systems designed to meet LEED standards. Temporary fencing, access roads and initial landscaping have been completed ahead of the ceremony.
APIIC engineers are finalising arrangements for the event, including a main podium equipped with digital screens. Security agencies have conducted mock drills in coordination with the city police to manage an expected 500 invitees. Invitations have been extended to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister Nara Lokesh and senior executives from Infosys and TCS. Local MLAs and community representatives are also expected to attend.
Cognizant is currently operating from a temporary plug-and-play facility at Mahathi Bhavan on Rushikonda Hill No. 2, with a seating capacity of 800–1,000.
Around 200 engineers have already begun work from this interim location, focusing on AI-driven digital services for global clients. The company has rented the facility at ₹5 crore/year until its permanent campus becomes operational in phases from 2027.
