Nara Bhuvaneswari Nayam Gelavali

Nara Bhuvaneswari hit the streets with her Nijam Gelavali (Truth Should Win) bus yatra on Wednesday, 25 October, to commiserate with the families of those who died following the arrest of her husband and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on 9 September in Nandyal by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation (CID) in the ₹371 crore skill development scam case.

According to observers, Bhuvaneswari, though new to the rough and tumble of of politics, appeared eloquent and effective while speaking at a meeting of women in Agarala in Tirupati district later in the afternoon.

Though not a fluent speaker in Telugu, Bhuvaneswari seemed to establish a connect with the women while explaining the “witch hunting” of her husband by the YSRCP regime in the state.

‘Naidu being targeted’

Bhuvaneswari said that she came into their midst not for any political gain but only to explain to them how Naidu was being targeted for working selflessly for the people.

She said: “You know about him more than I do. He spent more time with you than with me and our family. For him, people always came first. Family was always secondary to him.”

Bhuvaneswari started her bus yatra at Naravaripalle, the birth place of Naidu, after garlanding a statue of her father and former chief minister, the late NT Rama Rao, or NTR.

She then visited the families of N Praveen Reddy in Chandragiri and Chinnabba in Nendragunta, who had died following Naidu’s arrest. She handed them cheques for ₹3 lakh each.

‘Want truth to win’

Later, speaking at the Agarala meeting, she said that it was for the first time that she came out to explain to them the scheming nature of the YSRCP and how it was harassing the people associated with the TDP.

“I want the truth to win in the end. That is why I have come to you. This battle is not just mine. It is ours,” said Bhuvaneswari.

She said that the NTR Trust was formed in consonance with late NTR’s ideal of treating the poor as God. The trust has been taking up several welfare activities all over the state. “We are providing education to 3,000 orphan children,” she said.

Bhuvaneswari said that Naidu had always thought about welfare of people. His efforts to promote IT sector resulted in the creation of a beautiful Cyberabad in Hyderabad.

“Construction of Cyberabad was not easy. In the beginning, people used laugh at him, looking at the constructions in barren lands full of boulders. But he never allowed himself to be distracted from his aim,” she said.

Lashes out at YSRCP

She lashed out at the YSRCP and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for trying to tarnish the image of her husband.

“They are saying that Naidu had resorted to corruption in skill development scam. They are alleging that he had played a role in Fibrenet and Amaravati Inner Ring Road scams. But do they have any evidence to substantiate their charges?” she asked.

“After he became the chief minister of the reorganised state of Andhra Pradesh, he never took rest. He used work continuously to develop the state. He never bothered about the possibility of his health taking a hit,” she said and said she wondered whether the present YSRCP government had any interest in developing the state.
