father kills girl child

In Andhra Pradesh’s Karempudi village in Palnadu district, one Mahesh has been accused of killing his own 18-month-old girl child due to her gender and skin colour.

The mother of the child accused Mahesh of deliberately feeding the child poisoned prasadam to kill her.

While the child died on the intervening night of 30 and 31 March, doubts regarding her death came to light only recently, when the mother revealed the abuse she faced due to giving birth to a girl child.

A case has been filed, while the post-mortem reports of the child are yet to come.

‘Poisoned’ prasadam

According to the FIR filed by the mother, Mahesh offered “prasadam”—Pulihora and Payasam to her and their child on the night of 30 March.

However, on the next day, when they woke up, the child was motionless. The child was then taken to a private hospital, where she was declared dead.

According to the local reports, the child was buried immediately, without giving much time for any investigation.

However, when the child’s mother revealed to her family and relatives the abuse she faced from her husband, for giving birth to a girl child, they turned suspicious and supported her in filing a complaint.

According to the reports, Mahesh was also unhappy with the dark skin colour of their child.

The child’s mother filed a complaint on 3 April at the Karempudi Police Station, in Palnadu.

The Investigation Officer and SI Ramanjaneyulu told South First that, the “Cause of the death is not yet known, child’s body has been exhumed for post-mortem.”

“Further details will be known only after reports come,”  he added, “Mahesh will be investigated only after the reports come.”

The IO stated that the mother alleged abuse from her husband, owing to giving birth to a girl child, and her being dark-skinned.
