Andhra Pradesh tragedy: 8 killed in stampede at TDP roadshow of Chandrababu Naidu

In a tragic incident, at least eight TDP workers, including a woman, were killed and two are in critical condition as they fell into a nearby waterbody while attending party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshow in Kandukur of the Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday night.

After the incident, Naidu called off the roadshow and rushed to the hospital where the injured were shifted.

The incident took place at the main junction of Kandukur on Wednesday night while Naidu was addressing a  roadshow as part of the party’s new campaign Idhem Kharma Mana Rashtraniki.

As the crowds swelled at the roadshow, a stampede-like situation ensued, due to which at least 10 TDP workers fell into a drain.

They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Seven died while undergoing treatment, even as the remaining were in critical condition.

Immediately after the incident, Naidu called off the roadshow and rushed to the hospital.

The TDP announced ₹10 lakh compensation to each family of the deceased and assured better healthcare for the injured.

Six of the deceased  TDP workers were identified as Devineni Ravindra Babu, Kalavakuri Yanadhi, Yatagiri Vijaya, Kakumani Raja, Maralapati Chinnakondiah,  Purushottam.

The identity of the other deceased is yet to be established.

“The incident deeply pained me. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. It’s painful to lose the innocent lives of the TDP family in this manner. The party will stand in support of the families of the deceased and also those undergoing treatment,” said Naidu.
