Synopsis: A dilapidated boundary wall collapsed, causing the death of a Class 10 student in Parvathipuram Manyam district of Andhra Pradesh. A Class 10 student was killed and another injured after a boundary wall collapsed at the government high school in Salur, Parvathipuram Manyam district, on Monday, 17 August.

The incident sparked protests from the victim’s family. They staged a sit-in with the boy’s body on the school premises, demanding accountability.

The deceased, 15-year-old Arun Teja, was a resident of Relli Street in Salur. He was among a group of students who had stepped out to the school playground during the lunch recess and sat atop the compound wall.

The dilapidated wall collapsed, injuring those sitting on it. The two students were rushed to a nearby hospital. Teja succumbed to injuries while receiving medical care.

The incident occurred even as the Cockroach Janta Party has launched a nationwide School Teek Karo (Fix the schools) campaign.

A video of the grieving family outside the school went viral on social media, triggering discussions about the crumbling infrastructure of state-run schools.

Minister for Human Resource Development and IT Nara Lokesh expressed condolences to the family. In a post shared on X, Lokesh said a probe will be conducted into the incident, and those responsible will be punished. He instructed officials to ensure the injured student received advanced medical care.
