Yoga on the Godavari: Kovvur Gears Up for International Yoga Day

Against the serene backdrop of the Godavari River, the historic Goshpada Kshetra in Kovvur transformed into a hub of wellness and spiritual energy on Saturday. As part of a build-up to International Yoga Day on June 21, the district hosted a vibrant “Yoga Andhra” event, drawing hundreds to an early morning session filled with yogic discipline and natural beauty.

District Collector P. Prasanthi, who led the initiative, emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into daily life. “Over 7.6 lakh people have registered for Yoga Andhra in East Godavari — a sign of growing awareness,” she noted. A district-level celebration is scheduled at Bridge Lanka, mid-river, on Sunday.

Yoga Guru Saroja from Art of Living guided participants through asanas, while the Brahmakumaris led Raja Yoga meditation. A striking highlight was the collective “Vrikshasana” — forming a human garland in tree pose.

MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao urged citizens to adopt yoga to combat lifestyle ailments and drew inspiration from leaders like PM Modi and CM Chandrababu Naidu.

Officials, students, Vedic scholars, and citizens came together, reinforcing yoga’s power to unite, heal, and inspire.
