Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to generating 20 lakh jobs by 2029, following a cabinet sub-committee meeting. After reviewing investment data showing potential commitments worth ₹8.73 lakh crore, he directed officials to enhance the Investment Tracker Portal, promote MSME growth, and ensure industries receive skilled manpower through strengthened technical education.
Andhra Pradesh Information Technology and Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday, 25 March, reiterated the government’s commitment to creating 20 lakh jobs in the state by 2029.
Lokesh was speaking at the second meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on job creation, which he heads. The meeting was held at his residence at Undavalli, near Vijayawada.
The minister’s assertion came after officials briefed him on the status of investments received by the state so far, the current pace of job creation, and the various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed since the TDP-led NDA government came to power last year.
Also present were ministers TG Bharat (Industries & Commerce), Gottipati Ravi Kumar (Energy), P Narayana (Urban Development), Kondapalli Srinivas (MSME), and Kollu Ravindra (Mines).
Officials presented data indicating that agreements signed so far have the potential to attract investments worth ₹8.73 lakh crore, potentially creating 5.27 lakh jobs.
Lokesh instructed officials to further develop the Investment Tracker Portal and ensure that all details related to land allotments and permissions are comprehensively included.
He said policies that pose obstacles to investors would be reformed, and emphasised the need for wider policy reforms to facilitate job creation. He also directed officials to actively invite major companies, both domestic and international, to invest in the state.
He underlined the importance of instilling confidence among the management of companies already operating in Andhra Pradesh, encouraging their expansion through the provision of necessary subsidies and incentives.
Lokesh noted that several industrialists had expressed interest in investing in the state, and said their requirements—particularly related to land, permissions, and subsidies—should be cleared without delay.
He added that large-scale employment generation would take place in the MSME sector, and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting its growth.
The minister also highlighted the need to ensure industries are supplied with skilled human resources trained at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics.
He further stressed the importance of developing ports and attracting investments in the tourism sector. He noted the vast potential of the mining sector and instructed officials to give it priority as well.
