Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is unhappy with 32 MLAs, including a few ministers, for their lackadaisical attitude towards the party’s Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhuthvam programme.

Gadapa Gadapaku is a mass-contact programme, in which YSRCP legislators and leaders visit houses in their designated areas, explaining the welfare initiatives of the government ahead of the 2024 elections.

Addressing a review meeting on Friday, 16 December, Jagan reportedly asked the MLAs and ministers, who were found lagging, to improve their performance.

The YSRCP supremo said he would conduct another review meeting in March to assess their performance.

YSRCP sources told South First that Jagan was particularly angry with senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana, ministers Gudivada Amarnath, Seediri Appalaraju, Vidadala Rajini, Gummanuru Jayaram and Ambati Rambabu for staying away from the programme.

Jagan appreciated other MLAs for exceeding the target. “The previous review meeting held on 28 September had set a target of covering 2,600 village/ward secretaries. But in the past 75 days, the MLAs covered over 2,700 village/ward secretariats,” a top YSRCP functionary told South First.

“There is a renewed vigour and enthusiasm among the party cadre. The chief minister appreciated the MLAs’ efforts and asked them to resolve any problem they may come across during the house visits without any delay,” he said.

The chief minister was happy with the progress made by some MLAs,” he added.

While addressing the review meeting, Jagan said that the 2024 polls would be a class war between the poor and the capitalists and not a caste war. He added that if YSRCP did not retain power, it would be a loss for the poor and downtrodden.

Reiterating the importance of Gadapa Gadapaku, Jagan urged his party leaders to take the programme forward without being lethargic.

“MLAs who are unable to participate in the programme should visit their respective village/ward secretariats. While attending the programme, the MLAs should spend at least five minutes at every house, explaining the government’s welfare schemes though the elections are scheduled to be held after 16 months,” the chief minister said.

He directed the party leaders to complete the programme in their respective constituencies by March 2023.

Jagan further said that the distribution of tabs for Class VIII students through MLAs would begin on December 21. The tabs distribution programme should be conducted in the mornings and MLAs should participate in the door-to-door programme in the evenings, he said.

Similarly, welfare pensions should be distributed by the MLAs from the first of every month for a week and they should visit a Mandal in their respective constituencies besides participating in the door-to-door programme in the evenings, the chief minister said.

Urging the MLAs not to compromise on the ongoing development works, he asked party leaders to identify high-impact works in villages during the door-to-door programme and to ensure their completion with the funds allocated to the secretariats.
