On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day on Tuesday, 1 July, Andhra Pradesh honoured the tireless service of its medical fraternity at a ceremony held at Dr NTR Medical Sciences University. Medical and Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav praised doctors for their vital role in shaping a healthy society and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public health reforms.
The minister lauded the dedication of doctors, especially those who served fearlessly during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ten distinguished doctors, including Padma Shri recipient Dr MV Padma Shrivastava and noted surgeon Dr Narasimham, were felicitated for over three decades of service.
Calling for greater public respect toward medical professionals, Yadav condemned attacks on doctors and emphasised the need to hold negligent ones accountable through proper channels. He outlined the coalition government’s steps to clean up the state’s healthcare system, including transparent staff transfers and enhanced hospital performance monitoring.
Setting ambitious health targets for 2047 under the “Arogyaandhra” vision, Yadav stressed the need to improve life expectancy and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. The event closed with a call to bridge healthcare gaps in rural areas and inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
