Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta helps recover ₹3.66 crore in library cess from East Godavari
The action followed a complaint lodged by K Samba Siva Rao, highlighting non-payment by several municipalities and panchayats between 2007–08 and 2016–17.
In a step towards accountability and transparency, the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta has facilitated the recovery of ₹3.66 crore in library cess arrears from various local bodies in East Godavari district.
The action followed a complaint lodged by K Samba Siva Rao, highlighting non-payment by several municipalities and panchayats between 2007–08 and 2016–17.
The Lokayukta’s directives prompted the District Collector to initiate enquiries and verify the dues. With consistent follow-up and oversight, all concerned local bodies — including Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, Ramachandrapuram, Pithapuram, Tuni, and others — remitted the full amount.
The body calls this a strong example of the Lokayukta’s role in enforcing statutory duties, preventing maladministration, and ensuring efficient public service delivery.
Through persistent efforts, the institution continues to strengthen governance and uphold public accountability in Andhra Pradesh.
