Synopsis: Following the World Cup win last month, Chief Minister N Chandrabau Naidu had announced a comprehensive incentive package for the Kadapa-born talent, including the ₹2.5 crore cash reward, a residential plot, and a Group-I government job upon completion of her degree.
The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday, 17 December, handed over a cash award of ₹2.5 crore to promising left-arm spinner N. Shree Charani (also known as Sricharani), hailing from Kadapa district, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to India’s maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory.

Shree Charani, who made her international debut in April 2025, played a crucial role in India’s historic 52-run triumph over South Africa in the final held in Navi Mumbai. The 21-year-old bowler claimed 14 wickets during the tournament, emerging as one of the standout performers for the champion side.
Following the World Cup win last month, Chief Minister N Chandrabau Naidu had announced a comprehensive incentive package for the Kadapa-born talent, including the ₹2.5 crore cash reward, a residential plot, and a Group-I government job upon completion of her degree.
While the initial promise included a 1,000 square yard plot in her hometown Kadapa, the government allotted a 500 square yard residential plot in Visakhapatnam instead. The state also reaffirmed the assurance of a high-level government position for Shree Charani.
According to an official release, the government reiterated it’s commitment to promoting sporting excellence, particularly among women, stating that Shree Charani’s achievements serve as an inspiration for young athletes across Andhra Pradesh.
Shree Charani, who represents Andhra in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), expressed gratitude to the state government for the honour, pledging to continue bringing laurels to the country.
