Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday, 26 July, visited several of the 51 island villages in the Ambedkar Konaseema district which have remained marooned after the recent torrential rains.
The chief minister visited village after village despite the rain and interacted with the flood victims.
The island villages have been inundated through a breach that had formed a long ago to Vasista, a tributary of Godavari.
The chief minister is reaching the villages on punts and on tractors as road transportation has been cut off. He has inquired with the residents of Nagullanka how they were coping with the tragedy and promised them all the support they needed to rebuild their lives.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, interacting with victims in Arigelagvaripeta, explained to them that he chose to visit them one week after the floods hit them because he did not want to dislocate the relief work going on in these areas. “I am against optics and drama. I want the people to have relief first. Had I come earlier, all officials would have accompanied me, leaving relief work asie,” he said.
#YSJaganCares pic.twitter.com/ZdhKa9alJY
