Andhra man among four killed in Arkansas grocery store shooting, CM Naidu promises assistance to repatriate body

The victim, 32-year-old Dasari Gopikrishna, a native of Bapatla district, had moved to the United States only eight months ago in search of better livelihood opportunities.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday promised to help bring back the body of a man from the state who was allegedly murdered in the US recently.

Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased person, the chief minister promised every possible help from the state government to the family based in Bapatla district.

“Deeply saddened to learn that a young Dasari Gopikrishna from Bapatla has succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Texas, USA. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and assure them…every possible support to help bring him home,” Naidu said in a post on social media platform X.

Gopikrishna shot multiple times

The 32-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh was among four individuals tragically killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Arkansas.

The victim, Dasari Gopikrishna, a native of Bapatla district, had moved to the United States only eight months ago in search of better livelihood opportunities.

The incident occurred around 11.30 local time there on 21 June at the Mad Butcher grocery store, where Gopikrishna was working. He was at the billing counter when a gunman entered the store and opened fire, critically injuring him.

Gopikrishna was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.

The news of his death has left his family in Yajali, Karlapalem mandal of Bapatla district, in deep shock and grief. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son. The violent incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to nine others.

A video of the incident has gone viral in which a masked man wearing shorts and a cap is seen entering the store and shooting multiple times at Gopikrishna and then stealing some items and cash and fleeing the scene.

Gopikrishna’s parents D Srinivasa Rao and Dhanalakshmi are inconsolable over the news of their son’s death in the faraway country and are awaiting the return of his body.
