Indian cricketer Sri Charani meets Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday, 7 November, has announced a reward for cricketer Sri Charani, a member of the Indian Women’s team that recently won the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The Chief Minister declared a cash incentive of ₹2.5 crore for Sri Charani, along with the allocation of a 1,000-square-yard housing plot in Kadapa for the construction of her home. In addition, the Chief Minister announced that she will be offered a Group-1 officer post in the state government.

Pride of Andhra Pradesh

On Friday, Sri Charani called on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Information Technology and Sports Nara Lokesh at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Amaravati. She shared her experiences from the Women’s World Cup victory and expressed gratitude for the state government’s continued support.

Minister Nara Lokesh received her with a bouquet and congratulated her on her achievement.

Chief Minister Naidu, while congratulating Sri Charani, said that her performance in the World Cup had showcased the strength and determination of Indian women athletes on the global stage. “Sri Charani’s victory is a matter of pride for Andhra Pradesh and for the entire nation. She has become a role model for young women in sports,” Naidu said, adding that the state government is committed to promoting women’s participation in sports and nurturing emerging talent.

Committed to encouraging sportsperson: Lokesh

During the interaction, Sri Charani presented the Chief Minister with a T-shirt signed by all members of the Indian women’s cricket team. The Chief Minister accepted it and conveyed his best wishes to her and the entire team for greater success in the future.

Former Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj accompanied Sri Charani during the meeting.

Earlier, at the Gannavaram Airport, Sri Charani was accorded a grand welcome by Ministers Anitha, Savita, and Sandhya Rani, Andhra Cricket Association President Kesineni Chinni.

Minister Lokesh, welcoming Sri Charani at the camp office, said the state government under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is fully committed to recognizing and encouraging sportspersons who bring national and international glory.

Sri Charani expressed heartfelt thanks to the Chief Minister and the state government for their recognition and encouragement, promising to continue working hard and bringing more laurels to India.
