Andhra CM Chandrababu announces 34 percent BC reservation from TDP in local body elections
He recalled that backward classes make up more than 50 percent of the society and have stood as the backbone and pillar of support for the TDP for 45 years.
Synopsis: Chandrababu announced at the Kondapi meeting that 34 percent of the seats from the NDA alliance would be given on behalf of TDP. Reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding BC reservations, Chief Minister Chandrababu announced that justice would be done to BCs at the party level.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s verdict striking down the implementation of the 34 percent BC quota reservation in local body elections, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu declared that 34 percent reservation for BCs will be implemented at the party level.
Chief Minister Chandrababu provided clarity on BC reservations while addressing a public meeting following the distribution of pattadar passbooks bearing the official seal under the “Mee Bhoomi – Mee Hakku” programme in Narsingolu, Kondapi constituency, Prakasam district, on Friday, 9 October.
He recalled that backward classes make up more than 50 percent of the society and have stood as the backbone and pillar of support for the TDP for 45 years.
Chandrababu stated that they brought numerous changes to uplift them politically, economically, and socially; while NTR introduced 24 percent reservation for BCs in local bodies, he had increased it to 34 percent. He added that the previous government reduced it to 24 percent.
He said that when they increased reservations after coming to power, YSRCP went to court to obstruct it, stating that the party dislikes BCs.
Naidu asserted that it was the TDP that developed BCs socially, economically, and politically, and that BCs would always stand by TDP. He stated that the previous rulers did not implement the 34 percent reservation brought by them, and that many people lost opportunities because the previous government curtailed BC reservation to 24 percent. He mentioned that after the alliance came to power, they increased BC reservations to 34 percent.
The chief minister further noted that the rulings in the High Court and Supreme Court went against the reservations, alleging that cases were filed as part of a conspiracy to prevent the implementation of reservations for BCs.
He said that while they want justice for the backward classes, leaders of YSRCP created hurdles with the intention that BCs should not receive justice, should not get reservations, and should not prosper.
Chandrababu announced that even though the Supreme Court struck down the Government Order (GO) implementing these reservations, justice would still be rendered to BCs through the party.
He also alleged that YSRCP planned to stall local body elections as well, approaching the courts to try and prevent the elections under the pretext of ‘SIR’.
