Amit Shah Andhra Pradesh

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Sunday, 11 June, launched a blistering attack on the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh, stating that the only things that it did in its last four years of rule were corruption and scams.

Slamming the state government over the alleged farmer suicides in Andhra Pradesh, he said that it had done nothing concrete in the last four years.

The unexpected and public attack on the YSRCP government, which has maintained cordial relations with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, comes at a time there is talk of the saffron party considering an alliance with its erstwhile ally, the TDP, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

‘Modi ensured security’

Addressing a public meeting in Visakhapatnam to commemorate the nine years of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, the Union home minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured internal security and brought pride to the Indian diaspora across the globe.

Finding fault with the YSRCP government over its claims that it was a farmer-friendly government, Shah said Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy should be ashamed of making such claims.

He said Andhra Pradesh stood at the third place in the country in terms of farmers’ suicides.

The Centre was actually giving financial assistance to the farmers but the YSRCP government was claiming the credit, he added.

The Centre was giving 5 kg of rice free to a person after Covid-19, but Jagan was using his photographs and taking the credit, claimed the Union minister.

‘Administered free vaccines’

The Central government administered 230 crore free Covid-19 vaccines to the people in the country, he said.

“What happened to the ₹5 lakh crore given for the development of Andhra Pradesh?” he asked, adding that Visakhapatnam had become a hub for atrocities.

Land and sand mining took place with the alleged support of leaders from the ruling party, he alleged.

Shah said the Indian Railways was developing the Visakhapatnam railway station at a cost of ₹450 crore.

He added that efforts were also on to develop Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Amravati as smart cities.

He said the NDA would certainly get 300 MP seats in the next Lok Sabha elections, and added that the BJP should get 20 seats from Andhra Pradesh.

‘Modi gave them a reply’

Stating that the prime minister ensured India’s overall security, the Union home minister said soon after Pakistan-inspired terrorists, who had the habit of carrying out attacks in the country, launched strikes in Uri and Pulwama, India retaliated by entering Pakistan to carry out surgical strikes and air strikes and gave them a fitting reply.

During the last nine years of the NDA rule, the country’s stature increased across the globe, he said, adding that the prime minister was greeted with chants of “Modi…, Modi…” wherever he went.

This was a recognition for the 130 crore people in the country, including those in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

He said that scams running into several lakhs of crores of rupees took place during the Congress-led UPA regime from 2004-14.

But after 2014, the situation has completely changed and there is no scope for corruption, he added.
