A special flight carrying Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made an emergency landing at the Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada due to a technical fault barely minutes after take-off on the evening of Monday, 30 January.
Jagan, along with his team, was travelling to Delhi on Monday evening to participate in a diplomats’ outreach and curtain-raiser programme of the Global Investors Summit (GIS), scheduled in March.
While the aircraft landed safely, a preliminary assessment revealed a leak in the flight’s AC vent. Jagan was subsequently slated to travel to Delhi later in the day.
“The chief minister’s flight had taken off from the runway at the Gannavaram airport at around 5.03 pm. After some time, the pilot identified some technical glitch and immediately diverted the aircraft. The flight landed back at Gannavaram airport at around 5.27 pm. The chief minister had returned to his residence in Tadepalli,” said a top official in the Chief Minister’s Office.
Initial reports suggested that the pilot found some “pressurisation” issue due to a leak in one of the AC vents that prompted him to go for an emergency landing.
Chief secretary KS Jawahar Reddy, special chief secretary Poonam Malaondaiah, OSDs Krishnamohan Reddy, Chidananda Reddy, and Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy were also in the flight along with Jagan.
The government has ordered a probe into the incident.
