Another cyclonic storm is likely to hit Andhra Pradesh, barely a few days after Cyclone Arnab whipped the state and left at least seven people dead and a trail of destruction in its wake.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Saturday, 31 October, warned of a well-marked low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman Sea regions. He said the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and turn into a deep depression in the next 12 hours, and in 24 hours, may intensify into a cyclone in the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Southwest and West-Central Bay of Bengal regions.

It might reach the West-Central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast on the night of Monday, 2 November, Jain said.

He warned that heavy rains are likely at isolated places, and heavy to very heavy rains in some areas across Central Andhra and Rayalaseema districts over the next three days. He warned that squally winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour are likely along the coast from Sunday evening, and strong winds with speeds of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour from Monday.

The SDMA advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until Wednesday. People were advised to be alert and not to attempt crossing overflowing streams and canals caused by heavy rains. People in low-lying areas were urged to take appropriate precautionary measures.
