Several national highway projects were also launched, signaling a major push toward reviving Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s greenfield capital.
On 2 May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone or inaugurated 94 projects worth ₹58,000 crore in Amaravati. Among them were 74 major capital city infrastructure works, including the construction of the Legislative Assembly, High Court, Secretariat, and other key government buildings.
Amaravati Capital City Infrastructure:
74 Projects: These include the construction of key government buildings such as the Legislative Assembly, High Court, Secretariat, and various administrative buildings.
Residential Quarters: Housing for over 5,200 families in the capital region.
Urban Infrastructure: Additional urban development projects to support the revival of Amaravati as the greenfield capital city.
National Highway Projects:
Foundation stone for six National Highway projects, involving road widening, construction of road overbridges (RoBs), elevated corridors, and subways to improve road safety and connectivity to key destinations like Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Malakonda, and Udayagiri Fort.
Foundation stone for a railway project aimed at easing freight movement through Guntakal Junction.
Missile Testing Centre in Nagayalanka in erstwhile Krishna district: A facility being set up by DRDO which features indigenous radars, telemetry systems, and electro-optical technologies to enhance national defence preparedness.
Foundation stone for the PM Ekta Mall at Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam, aimed at supporting local artisans under the One District One Product initiative, promoting employment and rural empowerment.
Inauguration of seven completed National Highway projects, including road widening, construction of road overbridges, and subways to enhance connectivity and access to religious and tourist destinations.
Railway Projects:
Doubling of Bugganapalle Cement Nagar–Panyam rail line: Strengthens connectivity between Rayalaseema and Amaravati.
Third rail line between New West Block Hut Cabin and Vijayawada: Improves rail capacity and connectivity.
With the development of Amaravati, a positive impact on people’s lives is anticipated. Job creation is expected to shift the economic focus from agriculture to services and industry, empowering youth and vulnerable communities. The project’s focus on affordable housing, education, and healthcare is designed to improve the quality of life across all socio-economic sections.
