Directed and written by Nithilan Saminathan, known for Kurangu Bommai (2017), Maharaja features Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap in a significant role.
Vijay Sethupathi’s milestone 50th film, the film crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the box office. After a successful theatrical run, Maharaja is gearing up for its OTT release.
Netflix has officially announced that the Vijay Sethupathi-led film will begin streaming on 12 July 2024 along with dubbed versions in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
“I don’t do that anymore, but in the past, I’ve taken on projects because the filmmakers had helped me in some way. I’ve only chosen to work on films I believed were good.”
Maharaja was released in theatres on 14 June. It received mostly positive reviews but also faced criticism for its insensitive portrayal of sexual violence.
Maharaja also features Mamta Mohandas and Natty in important roles, alongside Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja and many others.
