“Kolai is a film that I have made with a lot of love. I wanted to make a film with international appeal. So, I chose to make it in a classy fashion,” director Balaji Kumar told South First.
Balaji Kumar pointed out, “not many know that India has another rich side to it. We have a really rich cultural heritage. So, I wanted Kolai to have an international appeal.”
Balaji Kumar says, “When we began Kolai four years ago, we intended to have subtitles in French and Spanish. The cast for this investigative murder mystery was chosen accordingly.”
He further adds, “For instance, we knew that Vijay Antony could easily pass off for a Mexican and Meenakshi Chaudhary, one of the female leads, has a French look.”
Vijay Antony sports a salt-and-pepper look in the film. The salt-and-pepper look, the director says, was to go along with his profile that claims that he solved over 200 cases.
John Vijay appears as a cop named Mansoor Ali Khan and Siddhartha Shankar as Sathish, Leila’s boyfriend. The investigative thriller also features Murali Sharma and Radhika.
To understand this, audiences need to remain focused. “But I can assure you that this will be a totally enjoyable experience,” the filmmaker signs off, with a confident smile.
