Kangana Ranaut, who plays the iconic character of Chandramukhi in director P Vasu’s upcoming horror-thriller Chandramukhi 2, said she might join politics in the future.
At a media interaction organised by the film’s unit in Chennai, the actress remarked that several heroines who worked in director P Vasu’s earlier films went on to enter politics.
“Honestly, I did not know that all these heroines became politicians. I didn’t notice this. But it is true. I am a very aware person and a responsible person.”
The actress, who plays Chandramukhi in this prequel to Chandramukhi (2005), disclosed that she had not interacted with Jyothika who did the role earlier, but considered her an icon
She also revealed how she got the role. “I told Vasu sir that I wanted to play Chandramukhi. He had a different script for me. However, I asked him if I could do Chandramukhi as well.”
“I did not interact with Jyothika but I watched her interview where she was asked who her favourite actress was and she took my name. She is such an inspiration.”
Talking about her role, “While they all get possessed by Chandramukhi, I am Chandramukhi herself. My story is the story of Chandramukhi. How she was and why she became a ghost.”
Chandramukhi 2 features a host of actors including Mahima Nambiar, Vadivelu, Shrushti Dange, Subiksha, and Ravi Mariya. It is scheduled to hit screens on 15 September.
