The COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed millions of people and infected over 700 million worldwide, has also had significant financial and psychological impacts.

Likewise, the pandemic’s effects on COVID-infected patients continue to linger, long after they test negative and recover.

Now, a new study has found that the infection may have increased the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death from any cause for up to three years since the infection.

Health

The increased risk applies even to people who do not have a pre-existing cardiovascular disease.

The risk for individuals who recovered from the infection without needing to be hospitalised is twofold while for ones who had to be hospitalised to recover is fourfold.
