Tamil Nadu’s Christian Medical College (CMC) has suspended seven students after a brutal ragging incident came to light.

A case is pending in the Madras High Court and, if the accused are found guilty, CMC will expel them.

'The police are now investigating the matter and the college management maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging,' Advocate Krishna Srinivasan told the court.

'Even the warden must be held responsible,' the judge said, concerned by how such incidents could recur despite having anti-ragging squads.

The junior students, especially the whistleblowers, are worried. 'Multiple threats have been issued.'

'They (the college management) are more bothered about finding the person who had complained,' said a junior student who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal.

The junior students are angry that while their complaint had named 30 seniors, only seven were named in the FIR.
