Chennai’s Mirrorz Theatre to unleash Tamil comedy anthology series

“The first challenge was to approach comedy differently,” shares VJ Navaneeth of the performing theatre company, who has written all four of the shorts.

However, the four short Tamil plays, each with its unique flavour, will not just be funny. “It will also be thought-provoking,” he assures.

“Through the lens of dark comedy, the narrative explores the consequences of accidental intimacy. It also challenges societal norms on women’s reproductive health,” he shares.

“It was quite interesting to ensure the comedy parts are woven in seamlessly. Some of these concepts are hard to visualise on stage. But I enjoyed the process,” he shares.

The theatre company is set to make the anthology concept a regular feature, staging it once every three months.

Following the completion of 4 Round, Mirrorz will shift its focus to exploring the impact of social media on society in its next anthology.

“The anthology will explore both the positive and negative aspects of social media. Our goal is to ensure audiences experience entertainment and meaningful performances,” he adds.
