Charvi Anilkumar continues her golden run, winning another chess championship

Eight-year-old Charvi Anilkumar from Bengaluru has brought India at least three major international chess titles.

On an unbeaten streak, she comfortably won eight out of nine matches.

It all started with an Under-9 National School Tournament in May, where she finished fourth. She was the only girl among the 158 participants.

Charvi’s larger goal is to become a grandmaster.

She idolises Judith Polgar, considered to be the strongest female player of all time, and Viswanathan Anand.

“She is taking more risks, which sets her apart from other kids in her category,” Charvi’s coach, Woman Grandmaster Aarthie Ramaswamy, said.

Charvi will next be seen in action in the January 2023 Delhi International Open Grandmaster Chess tournament.
