Several movies were under production during the pandemic. As a result, movies are now hitting the screens every week. However, only a few projects managed to survive at the box office.
Despite the media rating the flick excellent, the theatres witnessed low footfalls and South Indian Hero failed to meet the makers’ expectations said director HN Naresh Kumar.
After a detailed analysis, Naresh Kumar realised that the emergence of the OTT space during the Covid-19 lockdowns has affected the audience turnout in cinema halls.
“Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan is the best example of a mass entertainer. Sadly, no other good movies sustained for long in Sandalwood in the recent past,” he pointed out.
“In some cases, the ticket rate is kept at a bare minimum. This is done when the makers want to attract the repeat audience to the theatres,” Kannada Film Exhibitors’ Association head KV Chandrashekhar concurred.
With big films like Kabzaa, Hoysala, Martin, Bad Manners, and Raghavendra Stores lined up for release, Sandalwood is hopeful of bringing audiences back to the theatres.
