Here, are a few important tests that should be done prior to starting fitness journey and once a year thereafter (or depending on your physician’s recommendation).

Blood pressure: Can be easily checked at home by a BP machine. Try to keep it below 130/80 mmHg.

High TG:HDL, especially >3, indicates significant risk of heart attack and stroke,

ECG: Useful in detecting abnormal heart rhythms,

Echocardiogram: Very useful in detecting hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM), a very common cause of sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes,

Vitamin D: deficiency is common, can increase the risk of stress fracture, shin splints, etc,

Haemoglobin: Low haemoglobin (anaemia) can reduce the performance during exercise.
